Lithuania: Industrial production growth in March speeds up to nearly two-year high

April 21, 2015

In March, industrial production expanded 10.5% over the same month last year (February: +5.4% year-on-year), which represented the fastest expansion since May 2013. The pick-up reflects a notable acceleration in manufacturing growth, which reached a nearly two-year high, and a turnaround in the production of electricity, gas and steam. In addition, mining and quarrying as well as water supply recorded softer contractions than in the previous month.

On a sequential basis, industrial production decreased 3.4% over the previous month in seasonally-adjusted terms, contrasting the 6.1% expansion recorded in February. Annual average growth in industrial production improved markedly from 1.2% in February to 3.1% in March, the best reading in 15 months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 2.3% in 2015, which is unchanged over last month’s estimate. For 2016, the panel expects industrial production to increase 3.5%.
