Latvia: Inflation inches up in June

In June consumer prices rose 0.3% over the preceding month. The reading contrasted the 0.1% decrease observed in May and mainly reflected higher prices for food as well as for alcoholic beverages and tobacco.

Annual headline inflation inched up from 0.6% in May to 0.7% in June. Meanwhile, annual HICP stabilized at April’s 0.8% in May, which is the last month for which data are available. Annual average HICP inflation inched up from 0.1% in April to 0.2% in May.

The Central Bank expects HICP inflation to average 1.1% in 2014 (previous estimate: 1.7%). FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect HICP inflation to average 1.2% in 2014, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2015, the panel expects HICP inflation to average 2.2%.
