Latvia: Industrial output moderates in January

March 6, 2017

Industrial production in Latvia was 4.7% higher in January than in January 2016, which followed December’s multi-year high of 11.5%. January’s expansion was the result of strong gains in manufacturing output and mining activity. Meanwhile, growth in electricity and gas supply declined compared to December.

In seasonally-adjusted terms, industrial production fell 2.8% from the previous month in January, which contrasted the 0.1% expansion recorded in December.

Industrial production is expected to continue expanding this year, although at a more moderate pace. Analysts surveyed by FocusEconomics expect industrial production to expand 3.7% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2018, the panel expects growth in industrial output to remain at 3.7%.
