Latvia: Industrial output growth picks up in February

Industrial production was 10.6% higher in February than in February 2016, which followed January’s 4.7% increase. February’s expansion was broad-based as the three sectors that make up the index recorded gains in the surveyed month. The electricity and gas supply sector led the way by growing a staggering 28.4%. Meanwhile, the mining and manufacturing sectors expanded at a more modest pace.

In seasonally-adjusted terms, industrial production grew 3.3% from the previous month in February, which contrasted the 2.7% drop recorded in January.

Analysts surveyed by FocusEconomics expect industrial production to expand 3.7% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2018, the panel expects growth in industrial output to remain at 3.7%.
