In December, consumer prices added 0.2% over the previous month, which contrasted the 0.4% drop recorded in November. Despite the monthly increase, annual inflation eased from 1.6% in November to 1.4% in December, which was broadly in line with market expectations but below the Central Bank's target range of 3.0% plus/minus 1.0 percentage points.
The core inflation index, which excludes more volatile items such as fresh food and energy, also added 0.2% over the previous month, following the 0.1% increase observed in November. Annual core inflation inched down from 1.3% in November to 1.2%.
