Kenya: Inflation rises in March

In March, consumer prices rose 1.12% over the previous month, which was above the 0.46% increase observed in February and marked the highest value since September 2013. March’s print mainly reflected higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as moderate increases in several other categories.

Annual headline inflation increased from 5.6% in February to 6.3% in March. The reading exceeded market expectations of 5.9% and represented the highest reading in five months. Annual average inflation in March remained at February’s 6.6%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 5.6% in 2015, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2016, the panel expects average inflation to reach 6.0%.
