Kenya Inflation August 2016

Kenya: Inflation inches down in August

September 1, 2016

In August, consumer prices rose 0.08% over the previous month, coming notably below the 0.64% increase observed in July. August’s small rise mainly reflected increases in almost all subcategories of the consumer price index, which barely offset falling food prices.

Inflation receded slightly from 6.4% in July to 6.3% in August, contrasting market expectations of an increase to 6.8% and remaining within the Central Bank’s inflation target range of 5.0% plus/minus 2.5 percentage points. Annual average inflation stabilized at July’s 2.5% in August.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 6.1% in 2016, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2017, the panel also sees average inflation at 6.1%.
