Kenya: Inflation continues to rise in April

In April, consumer prices rose 1.82% over the previous month, which was above the 1.12% increase observed in March and marked the largest rise since April 2011. April’s print largely reflected higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as moderate increases in several other categories.

Headline inflation increased from 6.3% in March to 7.1% in April. The reading exceeded market expectations of 6.4% inflation and represented the highest reading in eight months. Annual average inflation inched up from March’s 6.6% to 6.7% in April.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 5.5% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. In 2016, the panel expects average inflation to reach 6.0%.
