Kazakhstan: Industrial production expands for fourth consecutive month in December
January 16, 2017
Kazakhstan’s industrial production increased 1.8% year-on-year in December, following a 1.1% expansion in November. The result marked a fourth consecutive month of solid growth and the strongest increase in two years.
December’s expansion stemmed from a broad-based improvement, particularly in manufacturing and in mining and quarrying. Developments in utilities were mixed since electricity production accelerated, while water supply declined for the fifth consecutive month.
December data suggest that Kazakhstan’s industrial production is gradually emerging from the abyss, since output contracted 1.2% in 2016 as a whole, which followed a 1.6% decrease in 2015.
