Italy: Inflation stable in July
July 31, 2015
According to preliminary estimates, consumer prices fell 0.1% in July over the previous month, which contrasted June’s 0.2% rise. The reading was below market expectations of a flat reading. The decrease mainly reflected that lower prices for fresh fruit and vegetables more than offset higher prices for services related to transport. Inflation tallied 0.2% in July, mirroring June’s result.
Core consumer prices, which exclude more volatile categories, such as unprocessed food and energy, grew 0.3% in July over the previous month, which was above the 0.1% rise recorded in June. Core inflation rose from 0.6% in June to 0.8% in July. Finally, annual harmonized consumer prices rose 0.4% in July, which was above June’s 0.3% increase.
