Italy: Inflation stable in August
August 31, 2015
According to preliminary estimates, consumer prices rose 0.2% in August over the previous month, contrasting July’s 0.1% decrease. The reading slightly overshot market expectations of a 0.1% rise. The result mainly reflected that higher prices for services related to communication more than offset lower prices of non-regulated energy products. In annual terms, consumer prices increased 0.2% in August, mirroring July’s result.
Core consumer prices, which exclude more volatile categories such as unprocessed food and energy, rose 0.3% in August over the previous month, which was the same growth as in July. Core inflation tallied 0.7% in August (July: 0.8%). Finally, annual harmonized consumer prices rose 0.5% in August, which was above July’s 0.3% increase and marked the highest value since January 2014.
