Italy: Inflation eases in November

According to preliminary estimates, consumer prices fell 0.4% in November over the previous month, contrasting October’s 0.2% increase. The reading marked a multi-year low and undershot market expectations of a flat reading. The fall mainly reflected significant decreases in prices of services related to recreation and to transport. Inflation slowed from October’s 0.3% to 0.1% in November, which marked a six-month low.
Core consumer prices, which exclude more volatile categories such as unprocessed food and energy, fell 0.6% in November over the previous month, contrasting October’s 0.1% increase. Core inflation tallied 0.6% in November (October: 0.9%). Finally, annual harmonized inflation came in at 0.1% in November, which was below October’s 0.3%.
