October 30, 2015

According to preliminary estimates, consumer prices rose 0.2% in October over the previous month, contrasting September’s 0.4% decrease. The reading slightly overshot market expectations of a softer 0.1% increase. The rebound mainly reflected significant increases in prices of unprocessed food and prices of services related to recreation. Core consumer prices, which exclude more volatile categories such as unprocessed food and energy, rose 0.1% in October over the previous month, contrasting September’s 0.4% decrease. Core inflation tallied 0.9% in October (September: 0.9%). Finally, annual harmonized inflation rose 0.3% in October, which was above September’s 0.2% increase.
