Italy: Inflation accelerates in October
November 13, 2015
Consumer prices rose 0.2% in October over the previous month, which matched market expectations and the preliminary estimate released by the National Statistical Institute on 30 October. October’s print contrasted the 0.4% fall tallied in September. The increase mainly reflected higher prices for unprocessed food and services related to recreation, which more than offset a decline in price of gas. Inflation inched up from September’s 0.2% to 0.3% in October.
Core consumer prices, which exclude more volatile categories, such as unprocessed food and energy, rose 0.1% in October over the previous month, contrasting September’s 0.4% fall. Core inflation in October remained stable at September’s 0.9%. Finally, harmonized inflation came in at 0.3% in October, which was above September’s 0.2% result.
