Italy: Annual consumer prices record zero growth in April
April 30, 2015
According to preliminary estimates, consumer prices rose 0.3% over the previous month in April, inching up from the 0.1% increase tallied in the previous month. The reading slightly overshot the 0.2% increase that markets had expected. April’s increase mainly reflected higher prices for services, which were partially offset by a decline in the price of regulated energy products. In annual terms, consumer prices recorded zero growth in April, contrasting March’s 0.1% decrease.
Core consumer prices, which exclude more volatile categories such as unprocessed food and energy, grew 0.4% over the previous month in April, rebounding from the stagnation recorded in March. Annual core inflation tallied flat growth in April, mirroring March’s reading. Finally, annual harmonized consumer prices recorded zero growth as well in April, inching down from March’s 0.1% increase.
