Italy: Industrial production gains steam in November

January 12, 2017

Industrial output in Italy grew 0.7% in November on a month-on-month seasonally-adjusted basis, an acceleration from the 0.1% expansion registered in October and overshooting analysts’ expectations of a 0.3% increase. All three sub-sectors grew more strongly than in the previous month: the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning, the quarrying and mining and the manufacturing sub-sectors, with the latter swinging from contraction to growth.

On an annual basis, industrial production expanded a working-day adjusted 3.2% in November, accelerating from October’s 1.3% growth. Annual average growth in industrial output also grew from 1.1% in October to a six-month high of 1.3% in November.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see industrial production growing 1.2% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect industrial output to expand 1.0%.
