Italy: Consumer confidence rebounds in March

The National Institute of Statistics’ (Istat) consumer confidence index rose from February’s 106.6 points to 107.6 points in March, taking it further above the 100-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

March’s reading reflected improvements in households’ assessment of the current general economic situation, the future general economic situation and their future personal economic situation. Conversely, households grew more pessimistic regarding their current personal economic situation. Lastly, their willingness to buy durable goods declined, recording the worst result in over one and a half years.

Panelists expect private consumption to expand 0.8% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists see private consumption growing 0.9%.
