Italy: Consumer confidence rebounds in June
June 26, 2015
The National Institute of Statistics’ (Istat) consumer confidence index rose from 106.0 in May to 109.5 in June. The result contrasted market expectations that the index would drop to 105.6 and represents the highest reading in three months.
June’s result reflected an improvement in all the subcomponents that comprise the index. Consumers’ assessment regarding the country’s economic situation, in particular, picked up to the highest level since June 2002. Households were also more optimistic regarding their personal economic situation, which was reflected in the index tracking willingness to buy picking up to its highest level since October 2001.
