Italy: Consumer confidence reaches lowest level in nine months

November 26, 2014

The National Institute of Statistics’ (Istat) consumer confidence index inched down from 101.3 points in October to 100.2 points in November, thus reaching the lowest level in 9 months. The figure came in below the 101.6 points the market had expected.

November’s reading reflected a deterioration in consumers’ sentiment regarding the country’s general economic situation. In addition, households were less willing to buy compared to the previous month. However, their expectations regarding their personal economic situation slightly improved compared to October.

Panelists expect private consumption to expand 0.1% in 2014, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2015, panelists see private consumption growing 0.5%, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast.
