Italy: Consumer confidence in November reaches multi-year high

November 28, 2015

The National Institute of Statistics’ (Istat) consumer confidence index rose from 117.0 in October to 118.4 in November. The result significantly overshot market expectations that the index would record a decrease to 116.5 and marked a multi-year high.

November’s result reflected an increase in all five subcomponents that comprise the index, with the exception of households’ assessment regarding their future personal economic situations. In particular, consumers’ assessments regarding both the present and future general economic situations reached all-time highs.

Panelists expect private consumption to expand 0.6% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists see private consumption growing 1.1%, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast.
