Italy Consumer Confidence February 2016

Italy: Consumer confidence falls to five-month low in February

February 25, 2016

The National Institute of Statistics’ (Istat) consumer confidence index fell from 118.6 in January to 114.5 in February. The result came in below market expectations that the index would record a softer decrease to 117.9 and marked a five-month low.

February’s result reflected a decrease in four of the five subcomponents that comprise the index. In particular, households’ willingness to buy big ticket items and households’ assessment regarding the current and future general economic situation recorded significant deteriorations.

Panelists expect private consumption to expand 0.6% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists see private consumption growing 1.1%.
