August 29, 2012
In August, the index of consumer sentiment published by ISTAT dropped to 86.0 points from 86.5 in July, matching market expectations. Sentiment deteriorated amid more pessimistic expectations regarding the general economy compared to the previous month. On the other hand, households' assessment on their own financial situation improved compared to July. In addition, respondents showed less pessimistic expectations regarding their financial situation in the short term. Accordingly, prospects for purchases of durable goods rose compared to July.
