Italy Consumer Confidence July 2017

Italy: Consumer confidence continues to rise in July

July 27, 2017

The National Institute of Statistics’ (Istat) consumer confidence index rose to 106.7 points in July from June’s 106.4 points, the best result in three months.

July’s reading mainly reflected an improvement in households’ sentiment regarding their personal situation. Consumers grew slightly more optimistic regarding their current and future personal economic situations and were far more willing to purchase durable goods. Households’ assessment of the future general economic situation improved slightly, although unemployment expectations worsened for the fourth consecutive month and households’ assessment of the current economic situation worsened significantly.

Panelists expect private consumption to expand 0.8% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists see private consumption growing 0.9%.
