Italy Business Confidence May 2016

Italy: Business confidence rises slightly in May

May 27, 2016

The National Institute of Statistics (Istat) composite business confidence indicator (IESE, Istat Economic Sentiment Indicator), which covers the manufacturing, construction, service and retail sectors, rose from 102.7 in April to 103.4 in May, marking the highest reading in five months.

Despite the overall rise in business confidence, there was a broad-based moderation in sentiment across sectorial indexes due to Istat’s statistical methodology.

Panelists expect fixed investment to increase 2.1% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists see fixed investment growing 2.2%.
