Italy: Business confidence rises in April

The National Institute of Statistics (Istat) composite business confidence indicator (IESE, Istat Economic Sentiment Indicator), which covers the manufacturing, construction, service and retail sectors, rose from a revised 100.2 in March (previously reported: 100.1) to 102.7 in April.

Three of the four categories increased compared to the previous month. Of particular note was the improvement in services, which hit a four-month high.

Panelists expect fixed investment to increase 1.9% in 2016, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists see fixed investment growing 2.2%.
