Italy: Business confidence rises further in March

March 29, 2017

The National Institute of Statistics (Istat) composite business confidence indicator (IESE, Istat Economic Sentiment Indicator), which covers the manufacturing, construction, service and retail sectors, rose from 104.3 in February to a 15-month high of 105.1 in March.

Three out of the four categories of the indicator improved compared to February: manufacturing, services and retail rose, with manufacturing recording the best result since December 2007. Conversely, confidence in the construction sector lost some ground relative to February.

Panelists expect fixed investment to increase 1.4% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists see fixed investment growing 1.9%.
