Italy: Business confidence keeps climbing
February 27, 2014
In February, the National Institute for Statistics (Istat) composite business confidence indicator (IESE, Istat Economic Sentiment Indicator), which covers the manufacturing, construction, service and retail sectors, rose from the 86.8 points recorded in January to 87.9 points. Business sentiment has been improving over the course of the last four months and February's print marks the highest reading since October 2011.
The improvement was driven by stronger readings in all the sectors covered by the index, with the strongest improvements recorded by the manufacturing and retail sectors.
Panelists expect fixed investment to contract 0.8% in 2014, which is unchanged from last month's forecast. For 2015, panelists see fixed investment growing 1.9%.
