Italy Business Confidence June 2017

Italy: Business confidence improves slightly in June

June 29, 2017

The National Institute of Statistics (Istat) composite business confidence indicator (IESE, Istat Economic Sentiment Indicator), which covers the manufacturing, construction, service and retail sectors, ticked up from May’s 106.2 to 106.4 in June.

Three of the four sub-categories of the indicator improved compared to May: manufacturing, construction and services, with the latter two pushed up mainly by expectations of higher order books. On the downside, the retail sub-category deteriorated, dragged down by a more pessimistic view of current sales.

Panelists expect fixed investment to increase 1.4% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists see fixed investment growing 1.9%.
