Italy: Business confidence hits three-month low in June

The National Institute of Statistics’ (Istat) composite business confidence indicator (IESE, Istat Economic Sentiment Indicator), which covers the manufacturing, construction, service and retail sectors, fell from a revised 103.0 in May (previously reported: 103.4) to 101.2 in June, marking the lowest reading in three months.

Two of the four categories of the indicator decreased compared to the previous month. The services sector recorded a three-month low, while the retail sector tallied its lowest reading since January 2015.

Panelists expect fixed investment to increase 2.2% in 2016, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists see fixed investment growing 2.2%.
