Italy: Business confidence falls in January

The National Institute of Statistics (Istat) composite business confidence indicator (IESE, Istat Economic Sentiment Indicator), which covers the manufacturing, construction, service and retail sectors, fell from a revised 105.6 in December (previously reported: 105.8) to 101.5 in January. The reading marked the lowest result in almost a year.

All of the four categories decreased compared to the previous month, with the services and retail sectors recording the most significant decreases.

Panelists expect fixed investment to increase 0.8% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists see fixed investment growing 2.1%.
