Italy: Business confidence decreases in March

The National Institute of Statistics (Istat) composite business confidence indicator (IESE, Istat Economic Sentiment Indicator), which covers the manufacturing, construction, service and retail sectors, fell from a revised 103.2 in February (previously reported: 103.1) to 100.1 in March, which marked the lowest reading in thirteen months.

Three of the four categories decreased compared to the previous month. Particularly pronounced was the fall in services, which recorded its lowest score in over a year.

Panelists expect fixed investment to increase 1.7% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists see fixed investment growing 2.2%.
