Israel: Consumer confidence improves in May while business confidence cools

The consumer confidence index produced by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) climbed to minus 10.8 points from minus 12.3 points in April. Although May’s result was a multi-year high, the index remains firmly entrenched in negative territory.

The business confidence index came in at 19.6 points in May, below the 23.1 points reached in April.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to grow 4.5% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. The panel expects private consumption to grow 4.0% in 2018.Panelists expect fixed investment to grow 4.8% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2018, the panel sees fixed investment growing 4.3%.
