Israel: Businesses more confident while consumer confidence deteriorates in May

The business confidence index elaborated by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) rose from 0.5 in April to 1.6 in May. According to the CBS, May’s increase was due to an improvementin the majority of the sub-components that comprise the index.

Conversely, the consumer confidence index fell from minus 16.1 in April to minus 22.4 in May, thus reaching the lowest value in four months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to expand 0.7% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2016, the panel sees fixed investment growing 1.4%. Panelists expect private consumption to grow 2.6% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. The panel expects private consumption to grow 3.0% in 2016.
