Israel: Business confidence rebounds but consumer confidence worsens in December

January 11, 2015

The business confidence index elaborated by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) swung from minus 0.8 points in November to plus 0.6 points in December. According to the CBS, December’s rise was due to an improvement in the majority of the sub-components that comprise the index, with the exception of retail trade and accommodation services, which declined compared to the previous month.

The consumer confidence index edged down from minus 25.2 in November to minus 28.2 in December, and thus continued the downward trend that began in May.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to expand 0.7% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2016, the panel sees fixed investment growing 1.4%. Panelists expect private consumption to grow 2.6% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. The panel expects private consumption to grow 3.0% in 2016.
