Israel: Business confidence improves but consumer confidence worsens in October

November 10, 2014

The business confidence index elaborated by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) swung from minus 1.7 points in September to plus 0.1 points in October. According to the CBS, October’s rise was due to an improvement in all of the sub-components that comprise the index, with accommodation services showing the greatest improvement over the previous month.

The consumer confidence index inched down from minus 25.1 in September to minus 25.3 in October and continued the downward trend that began in May.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to expand 0.7% in 2014, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2015, the panel sees fixed investment growing 1.4%, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month. Panelists expect private consumption to grow 2.6% in 2014, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. Next year, the panel expects private consumption to grow 3.0%, which is also unchanged over the previous month.
