Ireland: Industrial production rebounds in July

September 9, 2015

Industrial production rose 7.2% in July over the previous month in seasonally-adjusted terms, marking a turnaround over the 3.4% decrease tallied in June. According to the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the improvement resulted from a pickup in the “modern” sector, which includes pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and high-tech, as well as a recovery in the “traditional” sector.

In annual terms, industrial production tallied a 17.9% expansion in July, which came in below the 25.8% increase recorded in June. Meanwhile, the trend broadly stabilized, as annual average growth in industrial production came in at 20.7% in July, almost matching June’s 20.8% expansion.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 12.9% in 2015. For 2016, the panel sees industrial production increasing 3.8%.
