Ireland: Industrial production eases in November

January 8, 2016

Industrial production expanded 0.4% in November over the previous month in seasonally-adjusted terms, coming in below the 3.4% increase tallied in October. According to the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the reading came on the back of the increase in the “traditional” sector that more than offset a drop in the “modern” sector, which includes pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and high-tech.

In annual terms, industrial production tallied a 10.9% expansion in November, which came in below the 16.5% increase recorded in October (previously reported: 17.0% year-on-year). Meanwhile, the trend eased slightly, as annual average growth in industrial production moderated from October’s 19.1% to 17.5% in November.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 5.1% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel sees industrial production rising 2.4%.
