Indonesia: Retail sales growth picks up in October

In October, retail sales increased 2.2% over the same month last year, which was above September’s 1.8% rise. Higher growth in sales of food, beverages and tobacco chiefly drove the acceleration.

The trend continued to point downwards in October and annual average growth came in at a multi-year low of 4.3% (September: 4.8%). According to the survey, retailers expect sales to accelerate further in November and grow 2.9%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see private consumption rising 5.1% in 2018, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2019, panelists see growth in private consumption broadly steady at 5.2%.
