February 5, 2013
In December, retail sales expanded 15.7% over the same month the year before, according to Bank Indonesia's Retail Sales Survey (RSS). The reading was below the 17.2% increase observed in November (previously reported: +17.1% year-on-year). Sales of other household equipment as well as of other goods led the expansion in December.
In the full year 2012, annual average growth stood at 14.6%, which came above the 9.0% increase observed in 2011. Moreover, according to the survey, retailers expect growth in short-term sales (three to six months ahead) to continue to rise.
