Indonesia: Growth in retail sales picks up in May
July 18, 2016
Retail sales in May expanded 13.5% over the same month last year, according to Bank Indonesia’s Retail Sales Survey (RSS). The expansion was above the revised 11.2% increase (previously reported: +10.4% year-on-year) observed in the previous month and marked a nearly one-year high. According to the Bank, May’s expansion was party driven by sales of information and communication equipment as well as motor vehicles, parts and accessories.
Annual average growth in retail sales edged down from a revised 11.5% in April (previously reported: +11.4%) to 11.0% in May. According to the survey, retailers expect sales to remain stable in June at a 13.5% annual increase.
