Indonesia Retail June 2016

Indonesia: Growth in retail sales picks up in June

August 16, 2016

Retail sales in June expanded 15.9% over the same month last year, according to Bank Indonesia’s Retail Sales Survey (RSS). The expansion was above the 13.6% increase observed in the previous month and marked a one-year high. According to the Bank, June’s acceleration was driven partly by faster growth in sales of motor vehicles, parts and accessories, along with sales of food, beverages and tobacco.

Annual average growth in retail sales edged down from 11.0% in May to 10.6% in June. According to the survey, retailers expect sales to slow notably to a 2.6% annual increase.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see private consumption rising 5.1% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists see growth in private consumption at 5.3%.
