Indonesia: Growth in retail sales moderates again in August
October 13, 2015
Retail sales in August expanded 5.4% over the same month last year, according to Bank Indonesia’s Retail Sales Survey (RSS). The expansion was below the revised 8.4% rise observed in the previous month (previously reported: +4.8% year-on-year) and marked an eight-month low. According to the Bank, August’s moderation was driven mainly by declining sales of motor vehicles, parts and accessories as well as of automotive fuels.
Annual average growth in retail sales fell from 14.7% in July to 14.4% in August. According to the survey, retailers expect sales to increase in September to a stronger 6.0% annual increase.
