Indonesia: Inflation inches up in July
August 1, 2012
In July, consumer prices rose 0.70% over the previous month, which was above the 0.62% increase tallied in June. The reading mainly reflected higher prices for food as well as beverages and tobacco products. As a result of the monthly price increase, annual inflation inched up from June's 4.5% to 4.6% in July, which was in line with market expectations. Annual average inflation, however, edged down from 4.3% in June to 4.2% in July. Meanwhile, the core inflation index, which excludes volatile items such as food and administered prices, increased 0.54% over the previous month, driving annual core inflation up to 4.3% in July.
