India: Industrial production rebounds in July

September 15, 2017

Industrial output expanded 1.2% annually in July, contrasting June’s 0.2% drop (previously reported: -0.1% year-on-year). The turnaround was led by a broad-based expansion: the manufacturing, mining and electricity sectors grew from the previous month, with the electricity sector expanding at the fastest pace.

On a use-based classification, the production of primary goods expanded healthily, while the production of both intermediate and capital goods continued to fall.

Annual average growth in industrial production fell from 3.2% in June to 2.9% in July.

FocusEconomics panelists expect industrial production to increase 5.3% in fiscal year 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For fiscal year 2018, the panel expects industrial output to expand 6.2%.
