Hungary: Industrial production growth speeds up to six-month high in January

According to preliminary data released by the statistical institute (KSH) on 6 March, industrial output in January rose a working-day adjusted 7.7% over the same month of the previous year, marking an acceleration compared to the 4.7% increase observed in December. The print exceeded market expectations of a 3.8% increase and marked the fastest expansion in six months.

On a monthly basis, industrial production rose a seasonally- and working-day adjusted 4.3% in January, contrasting December’s 1.6% contraction. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production inched up from 7.2% in December to 7.3% in January.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to grow 5.2% in 2015, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2016, the panel expects industrial output to expand 5.5%.
