Hungary: Economy expands solidly in Q3

November 15, 2017

The Hungarian economy picked up steam in the third quarter. According to preliminary data released by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) on 14 November, economic growth in Q3 came in at 3.6%. The quarterly print was largely supported by market-based services and came in above the previous quarter’s revised 3.3% increase (previously reported: +3.2% quarter-on-quarter).

In a quarter-on-quarter, seasonally- and calendar-adjusted basis, GDP growth slowed from a 0.9% increase in the second quarter to a 0.8% expansion in the third quarter. More detailed data will be released on 5 December.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the economy to expand 3.2% in 2018, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2019, the panel expects growth of 3.1%.
