Hong Kong: Inflation stable in November

December 23, 2015

Inflation remained stable at October’s 2.4% in November. The result was in line with market expectations. A government spokesman commented that, “looking ahead, inflation should remain contained in the near term given the soft import prices and moderate local cost pressures.”

Consumer prices rose 1.6% in November over the previous month in seasonally-adjusted terms, which was above October’s 0.6% increase and marked a multi-year high. Meanwhile, annual average inflation inched down from October’s 3.5% to 3.2% in November.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 3.1% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects inflation of 2.9%.
