Guatemala: Inflation inches up in February

March 10, 2015

In February, consumer prices increased 0.31% over the previous month, which contrasted the 0.36% drop tallied in January. Annual headline inflation inched up from 2.3% in January to 2.4% in February. January’s reading had marked a five-year low. Inflation is still hovering well below the lower bound of the Central Bank’s tolerance margin of plus/minus 1.0 percentage points around its target of 4.0%.

At its 25 February monetary policy meeting, the Central Bank decided to reduce the policy interest rate from 4.00% to 3.50%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists foresee inflation at 3.9% at the end of 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. The panel sees inflation also at 3.9% at the end of 2016.
