In December, consumer prices rose 0.22% over the previous month, which followed an increase of the same magnitude in November. According to the National Statistics Institute, the monthly rise reflected higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as for clothing and footwear. Annual inflation inched up from 6.1% in November to 6.2% in December, which was a notch above the upper limit of the Central Bank's target of 5.0% 1.0%. In 2010, inflation reached 5.4%. The Central Bank has an inflation target of 4.5% 1.0% for this year. For 2013, monetary officials have set an inflation target of 4.0% 1.0%.
