Guatemala: Growth in economic activity picks up again in August

In August, economic activity increased 4.3% over the same month of last year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de la Actividad Economica). The result marked a slight acceleration over the previous month’s revised 4.2% expansion (previously reported: +3.9% year-on-year). August’s reading is the highest in four months, and marks the second consecutive month of acceleration.
Annual average growth in August was stable at 4.6%, mirroring both June and July’s result. Annual average growth has been relatively steady so far this year, remaining within plus or minus 0.1 percentage points of 4.6% for since January.
